A business perspective on decisions that matter.

Mike Phalin spent more than two decades helping build and lead a regional telecommunications business. His work involved growing customer relationships, leading sales teams and navigating the practical demands of business growth and change.

He founded Southern Strategies in 2024 to bring that operating perspective to conversations with business owners, executives, individuals, families and institutions. Based in Harrisburg, Illinois, Mike is a Southern Illinois University graduate and U.S. Army veteran.

Today, Southern Strategies focuses on three core offerings: Liquidity & Legacy Strategies, Employee Wellness Programs and Tax Strategies. The starting point is your objective: what needs to work differently, why it matters and what constraints any approach must respect.

Mike works directly with clients and coordinates specialized resources when the situation calls for them. Your existing legal, tax, insurance and financial advisors remain important to evaluating requirements, tradeoffs and potential fit. The goal is a clear next step grounded in facts, not pressure to move forward.

How we work.

A useful conversation should help you understand the issue, the facts and the choices ahead. These principles guide our work.

Clarity

We separate confirmed facts from assumptions and unanswered questions. Requirements, costs and obligations belong in the conversation alongside potential benefits.

Perspective

We begin with your business or personal objective. An approach deserves consideration only when its requirements and tradeoffs make sense for your circumstances.

Personal attention

You work directly with Mike, with specialized resources coordinated as needed. We explain what further evaluation involves so you can make an informed decision about the next step.
